June 13 – 16, 2024 | Indianapolis Motor Speedway – Indianapolis, IN

Running the Road Course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway was to be the second of 3 race weekends in a row following a week off after Pittsburgh.  Unfortunately, I had some previous commitments to business which would keep me from getting to Indi. until Saturday, thus missing all the practices and qualifying sessions.  It was to be a two-race weekend with 32 points up for grabs, so I had to be there even missing qualifying would relegate me to starting in the back of the 19-car field.   The event itself was fabulous with beautiful weather, a fantastic buffet/dinner party with a great band on Saturday evening as well as a reunion with my old friends from Duntov – the builder of the Leadfoot Corvette. 

Our group 6 race was combined with Groups 8 & 12 – theoretically faster groups but even so we only had 19 cars in our race.  Right from the unload, the Corvette started having some serious challenges with its power steering and we chased the problem for the entire weekend resulting in two – thankful to get – second place finishes in class.  First in class went to an extremely fast and very pretty red Group 6 big block Corvette – who incidentally finished first overall.  He was very fast.
